I Am Not Resigning As PDP Chairman, Bamanga Tukur Says

National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur has said that he is not resigning his position as the Chairman of the party as widely circulated. Tukur who disclosed to pressmen after a closed door meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan and some members of the National Working Committee said the rumours making the rounds that he would be forced to resign, were premature and mischievous. “It is not true that I am resigning. Resign for what? It is not true. We are here to run the PDP and we have done so and we will continue to run the PDP. “We are going to have our caucus tonight, we are going to have BOT tomorrow, and we are going to have our National Executive meeting on Thursday.” “The chairman is not only in office, he is in power. In PDP, there is no vacancy in the national chairmanship,” he trailed off. A high powered Presidential committee set up by President Goodluck Jonathan to look into the crisis rocking the party has recommended the resignation of Tukur and other members of the National Working Committee of the party, a decision that reportedly got the approval of Mr President But Tukur after the meeting today said the Anyim Pius report would not affect him but other members whose appointments needed to be regularized.
