Atiku, Seven Governors Walk Out of PDP Convention, Name Leaders for their Faction of the Party


Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, and some governors in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, today walked out of the party’s convention held at the Eagles Square in Abuja.


The governors namely, Murtala Nyako of Adamawa state,  Babangida Aliyu of Niger State, Aliyu Wamako of Sokoto State, Sule Lamido of Jigawa state, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano state, Rotimi Amaechi of River state and Ahmed of Kwara stormed out of the venue of the convention in protest of what it said is the disqualification of many aspirants seeking office into the party.

Over 50 of the 75 aspirants, most presumed to be loyal to opponents of President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term ambition within the PDP, were disqualified from vying for the 17 available National Working Committee, NWC, positions of the party.

After leaving the venue of the convention in anger, the aggrieved governors and Atiku converged on the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja where they addressed a press conference.

At a press briefing, attended by all the seven governors, a new leadership of the PDP which effectively means the party has been factionalised.

The new faction of the party named Abubakar Kawu Baraje, a former acting National Chairman of the PDP as the leader of the new faction of the party, while a former Osun State Governor and National Secretary of the PDP, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, was announced as the National Secretary of the new PDP faction.

The party leaders said they took the decision to salvage the PDP from those who have hijacked it.

Why We Must Implement Diaspora Voting System By Hon. Alex Obi-Osuala

Diaspora votes must count in Nigeria. This is my position/opinion. If not because of the dubious nature of the officials in the government of Nigeria, one does not see any reason why Nigerians in Diaspora shouldn’t be voting as done in most countries of the world. Their votes would have been making a great difference, and give them a sense of belonging and participation in the affairs of the nation.
