Don’t Impeach My Husband, Suntai’s Wife Begs Taraba Lawmakers

The move by the lawmakers in the Taraba state House of Assembly to commence impeachment proceedings against the governor of the state, Danbaba Suntai having certified him unfit to resume duties 10 months he was hospitalised has as result of the life threatening injuries he sustained in a plane crash last October, has forced the wife of the governor, Hajiya Hauwa Suntai to plead with the lawmakers not to impeach her ailing husband.

The lawmakers who are said to have collected signatures to commence the impeachment process, commenced the move yesterday after the governor announced the dissolution of the state cabinet through his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Sylvanus Giwa.

Sources said it was the impeachment move that made the wife of the governor quickly arrange for the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Haruna Tsokwa, and a few other legislators to visit the governor, after initially denying them access to him

In spite of Hauwa’s intervention however, the legislators are said to be going ahead with their impeachment plan as 17 of them have already signed the impeachment notice.

One of the reason advanced for the insistence of the lawmakers to continue with the impeachment move was the inability of the governor to recognise the speaker when he was eventually allowed access.

Suntai was said to be muttering “oh, my friend… my friend… my friend” and faded off again, a source said.

The legislators are also said to be angry about the allegedly stage-managed video of Suntai’s purported broadcast to the people of the state yesterday.
