PDP Crisis: Baraje, Oyinlola, Others Faces Expulsion



Barely five days after the Bamamga Tukur-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) suspended four principal officers of the break-away faction of the party, the party appears set to wield the big stick with plots to expel of the leadership of the faction.


The party while announcing the suspension of the New PDP leaders: Abubakar Kawu Baraje, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Sam Sam Jaja and Ibrahim Kazaure who were chairman, secretary, deputy chairman and zonal vice-chairman respectively, had ordered them to appear before the Umaru Dikko-led Disciplinary Committee of the party.

But reports that the four suspended leaders have rejected the action which came three days after the Court of Appeal in Abuja ordered the reinstatement of Oyinlola as national secretary of the PDP necessitates the planned expulsion of the factional leadership of the “new PDP”.

The four suspended leaders vowed not to appear before the As PDP mulls the ultimate disciplinary measure, an embattled Oyinlola has described his suspension as an affront on the judiciary, saying it ridicules the judicial system.

A member of the PDP BoT who sought anonymity said the suspended members risk expulsion from the party if they carried out their threat to ignore the invitation of the Disciplinary Committee.

“The party has directed them to appear before the Disciplinary Committee to justify their actions in violation of the party’s constitution; let them go in their own interest and, if they carry out their threat, I can assure you that their expulsion from the party would be recommended to the NEC and they would all be disposed of. This is a new era; the era of anything goes is over in the PDP,” he said.

On the fate of the G-7 governors, the source said: “They know that it’s in their interest to embrace the ongoing reconciliation initiated by President Goodluck Jonathan; and if they too remain adamant, they would face similar treatment because no one is above the laws of the party.

If not because of the dubious nature of the officials in the government of Nigeria, one does not see any reason why Nigerians in Diaspora shouldn’t be voting as done in most countries of the world.
