PDP or APC: G-7 Governors to Decide Next Move in Sokoto



Barring any last minute change, the group of seven governors in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will meet in Sokoto to decide on their next line of action on whether to remain in the PDP or decamp to the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC).


This was made known by Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa, while some women organizations who paid him a solidarity visit at Government House, Yola, yesterday.

Nyako revealed that the aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party will meet in Sokoto to conclude talks on their next line of action and that the outcome of the meeting would determine whether to leave or remain in PDP.

Nyako said the aggrieved governors were committed to justice and fairness and that there were now more aggrieved governors in the struggle, adding that the Sokoto meeting would reveal the hidden governors because “they feel it is time to declare to the world their stands.”

Said Nyako: “I am going to Sokoto. In Sokoto, we shall conclude the talk. You know there are seven of us but I can assure you that we are more than that. There are others who are also fed up with the way things are being done in the party; you will soon know them.”
Nyako said there was no going back, adding that they had resolved to “fight injustice and impunity no matter the threats coming from the authorities who are so desperate to frame me and my associates.”

He alleged that federal agents went to the Navy where he once served “and were disappointed when they realized I left a clean record.”

The governor also accused those he called Abuja politicians of scheming to impose their candidate as governor in the state, stressing that, that was why they were doing everything possible to discredit his administration “before the eyes of Adamawa people so as to get the sympathy of the people to allow them achieve their selfish desires.”

He thanked the women for their sustained support to his administration assuring them that they would not be disappointed. Nyako called on the Adamawa women to use their numerical strength to fight injustice during elections in the state to ensure that “Abuja politicians do not impose mediocre on them.”

Wife of the governor, Dr. Zainab Nyako, thanked the women for their support to the administration and assured them of nthe administration’s commitment to women empowerment programmes.
