President Jonathan Abandons Federal Executive Council Meeting For Last Minute Campaigns In Anambra

The weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting did not hold on Wednesday.

Though no official reason was given for the ‘no show’, President Goodluck Jonathan, who chairs the Council, spent the better part of working hours in Anambra State for the grand finale of the PDP gubernatorial campaign in the state.

The Pilot Gate of the State House, Abuja, which witnesses heavy vehicular traffic on Wednesdays was empty as ministers who are members of the Council, stayed away.

The Vice President, Namadi Sambo who usually presides over FEC meetings in the President’s absence had travelled out of the country on Tuesday night.

Sambo is presently attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Sri Lanka. He would also attend a conference in Kuwait before returning to the country on Wednesday.

The FEC meeting also failed to hold on October 30 and no official reasons were given.

The Council is the highest decision making body of the Federal Government. The President, Vice President, ministers, special advisers, special assistants, Head of Service and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, are members.

The Council meets from 10am every Wednesday at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, to discuss policies, review and approve contracts as well as discuss other government businesses.
