Thinking About Nigeria This Morning, Time To Ask The Government, ‘How Can We Be Of Help?’ – Omojuwa

I am frustrated.
Nigeria has reached breaking point. This is the point where we either come together united or perish together divided. What happened in Abuja yesterday could have killed an average person who lives in the city. That was not an outskirt town, that was right inside the city. We need to realise that if we don’t unite against these forces of evil, the bombings will keep getting closer until we all realise it is a problem for us all and not some few people up north.
While we agree the government can do better, may be we should now look to help them hoping they will agree to be helped. Our people want to see the major political parties and actors working together for peace in our country. We have reached that point; we live together or die together. The choice should not be such a difficult one to make. Nigeria needs help and we must do our best to make this country work.

I have heard many friends say they will relocate from our country. I often tell them, “I understand.” But, have you ever found any Nigerian who relocated and took ALL his/her loved ones with him/her? The truth is, no matter how far you run away from Nigeria, this country sticks to you wherever you are. You can run away from Nigeria but as long as you have family here, Nigeria will always be right there wherever you are. It is time to commit to making this country work. It is time for the good elements of the major political parties to come together to make this country work. It is time for us to rethink the 2015 elections and ask if we have other democratic options apart from elections. The bombings are getting closer. The killings are getting worse. The chances of a relative getting killed increases by the day. Don’t get it twisted, some of those who got killed yesterday believed it would never be their portion. Bombs don’t discriminate. Let us come together and make our country work!
It is time to ask the government, ‘how can we be of help?’ It is time for those in government to stop obsessing over 2015 and ask for help within and without. One thing is clear, our government as it is cannot fight this battle alone. Our people as we are can do so much more. We have not explored all our powers and abilities, we have not been united in this fight enough. We have a chance now. God bless Nigeria and may Africa’s glory shine through.
