Jonathan Didn’t Give Chibok Parents N100m—Presidency

The presidency has denied the allegation that it gave N100m to the parents of the abducted Chibok girls during their visit to the State House.

A BBC Hausa service report which was transcribed and published on Abusidiqu has earlier narrated how parents of the Chibok girls and the Chibok community in Abuja disagreed over a N100million cash giftfrom President Goodluck Jonathan.

The report attracted the reactions of some Nigerian, one of them is the former Minister of Education and a leader of the BringBackOurGirls campaign, Mrs. Obiageli Ezekwesili.

Madam Oby while condemning the alleged act via her twitter handle, @obyezeks, described gift as ‘Filthy lucre and disgusting’.

But in a swift reaction, Dr.Doyin Okupe, Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, labelled the alleged N100m cash gift as ‘falsehood’.

“I want to make it clear and emphatically to the PGEJ did not give any N100m to the Chibok visitors who came to the villa. The story is absolute falsehood,” Okupe said via his twitter handle.

Earlier, the Chibok community whom the BBC report accused of using the abducted girls to enrich themselves denied receiving N100m from the president.

Chairman of the community, Tsambido Abana, while denying the report however said the money that was shared to the parents was handled by presidency officials who gave out envelopes to the parents, so I was not involved in the sharing and I can’t say anything about it.”
