Kaduna Blasts: Jonathan Telephones Buhari, Promises Thorough Investigation

President Goodluck Jonathan has reportedly called former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari on the phone to express his sympathy over the bomb attack that nearly claimed his life in Kaduna on Wednesday.

According to the Cable, the President put a call through to Buhari on Wednesday evening to express his sympathy with the former head of state.

Although the report said the details of the conversion remains sketchy, it however added that the president promised a thorough investigation into the incident.

It described the conversation between President Jonathan and the leading opposition figure as “warm, cordial and sincere.”

Buhari had on Wednesday escaped death when his convoy was caught in a blast at Kawo area of the city while he was on the way from his hometown, Daura, in Katsina State. Buhari described it as an assassination attempt. His vehicle was completely destroyed and several people were killed, although his security aides also survived the attack.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but fingers are pointing to the insurgents Boko Haram group which has carried out a couple of attacks in the country in the past years.

Earlier on the same day, a similar attempt was made on the life of a prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, who has repeatedly criticised the activities of the dreaded Boko Haram sect.
