Boko Haram: Reasons Why The Military Is Now Winning The War Against Insurgency

The war against the rise of violent jihadist movement in Nigeria suffered a major embarrassing setback last week in the hands of the Nigerian security forces in the battle currently raging in the northeastern region of Nigeria inside Borno State at the town of Konduga and its immediate surrounding communities.

The Nigerian troops scored a resounding victory in pushing back the ragtag forces of the Boko Haram who had for several months rained embarrassment to the Nigerian troop by scoring several defeats against the oil giant of a nation. The ragtag Jihadist forces had on several clashes with the Nigerian troops defeated the Nigerian troops into abandoning their weapons and machine guns as heir ran for their lives – while some over 489 officer ran over to a primary school inside the neighboring Cameroon for safety. The Nigerian military headquarters termed it a tactical maneuver.
A senior military officer stationed in Maiduguri, said that the recent victories scored by the Nigerian military was not coincidental or accidental. He pointed to the actions of the 12 junior military officers who had taken matters into their hands to assault their commander over allegations of working for the Jihadist – as contributory to the boost in moral of the fighting officers.
The senior military officer also credited the newly trained Nigerian military officers. The newly trained officers were trained by the United States of America [USA] led team of anti-terrorism squad. “The return of the newly trained military to the battle field helped boost the Nigerian side tremendously”, stated the senior officer who also added that the equipment being used by the military now has improved. “It is no longer those obsolete equipment, we now have better arms”.
The recent renewed effort by the President of the federal republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan to block the external sources of funds and weapons may have begun to impact the Jihadist group negatively.
Another source from the defence headquarters in Abuja pointed to the politics of war against Boko Haram as being one of the bottlenecks hindering the proper execution of the war. He credits the recent victory to the removal of partisan politics from the war waged against Boko Haram and their sponsors. “The government is now done with politics and committed to end the rubbish”.
The probable death of the leader of Boko Haram may have left the terrorist group in disarray” added an intelligence agent who is also involved in the war against Boko Haram in Borno. He adds that there are rumors of turmoil with the ranking members of the Jihadist over who is to mount the leadership position of the group. Lower ranking members of the Jihadist group are rumored to be divided as well. Many do not believe their leader has been killed.
