Scores of Soldiers, Civilians Killed as Munguno Falls to Boko Haram

The deadly attack launched by the Boko Haram insurgents group in a bid to take over the city of Maiduguri has led to the death of several soldiers, just as the town of Munguno in the state has been taken over by the sect.
The insurgents in a bid to capture Maiduguri launched coordinated attacks from various fronts, icluding Konduga, a town located 35 kilometres from the state capital.

Their bid to takeover Maiduguri was however foiled by the combined power of air and ground assualt by the military, but Munguno was not as lucky as the sect took over the town.

In the fierce battle between Nigerian troops and the insurgents, scores of civilians and soldiers were said to have died in the outskirt of Maiduguri, while the military barracks in Munguno was captured by the sect.

Confirming the fall of Monguno to the insurgents, our source said “we have decimated the idiots (from Maiduguri) but Monguno has fallen”.

He said the military casualty from the Maiduguri and Monguno battles had been recorded, but would not provide details.

Already, the Army has imposed a curfew on Maiduguri.

The 7th Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri on Sunday announced the 24-hour curfew following the attacks.

The Spokesperson of the Division, Sani Usman, said this in a statement he signed and issued in Maiduguri.

“Be informed of the imposition of a curfew on Maiduguri immediately,” the spokesperson said as quoted by the News Agency of Nigeria.

“The curfew will remain till further notice.”
