House Of Reps Plenary Disrupted Over Leadership Tussle


The plenary sitting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday was disrupted by some members who are protesting the handling of the leadership tussle in the house.

The House was expected to elect principal officers at the plenary which the pro-Dogara group has decided would go against the decision of the party.

Thursday’s crisis started as the speaker arrived at the House to commence plenary.

Shortly after settling in, APC members began to raise points of order as some lawmakers rushed for the mace, the symbol of authority of the House.

The House broke into two factions, one supporting the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, which seeks to choose the House principal officers, and another, backing the the speaker, Yakubu Dogara, who insists on defying the party.

During the fracas, attempt were made by some lawmakers to hijack the mace, but Abusidiqu learnt that the mace has been kept away from the chamber b y security operatives.
The Pro-APC lawmakers were chanting ‘APC, party supremacy’ while Dogara loyalists chanted ‘Dogara’.
